GREEN VALLEY LAKE
CITIZENS FOR DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
Minutes of the Meeting of
February 1 , 2007 Fire Station

1.  A meeting of the Green Valley Lake Citizens for Disaster Preparedness, held on Feb.1, 2007, at      the Fire Station was called to order at 7:05 PM by Chairman Walter Farmer.

2.  MEMBERS  PRESENT:  Walt Farmer, Pat and Sandi Huckaby, Terry Droll, Scott Pace, Debi       and John Loftus, Frank Ellis, Dan Dresselhaus, Jean Luck, Nicholas Gardiner, Marta Hethmon.

3.  MINUTES:  The minutes of the Jan. 4th meeting were read.

4.  TREASURER’S REPORT:  Treasurer Stephanie Adams was absent.  Nothing new to report.

5.  COMMITTEE REPORTS:
A.) Zone Committee:  Sandi Huckaby volunteered to take over this committee, as Roger Hulett has been too busy.  We are grateful to Roger for all the work he has done on the zone maps and the people he has contacted to be zone leaders.  We currently have 8 zone leaders (Sandi Huckaby—Piedras Grandes Zone, Travis Mathews—Fern Zone, Terry Droll—Merchants Zone, Scott Pace—Falling Leaf Zone, Dani and Ben Montoya—Wild Rose Zone, Tom Guffey—Zone 8, Richard Martinez—Zone 9, Ron Johnson—Weeping Willow); we still need to find 4 more zone leaders.  Action Item:  Each zone leader walk their zone and report back any problems.  Identify more possible zone leaders.

  1.  Inventory Committee:  Debi Loftus reported that the committee met and discussed how to outfit 24 zone leaders with hard hats and vests (plus get 500 batteries for radios).  Because we already have so many buckets with lids, we will use them to store the medical supplies in.  The committee is currently looking at some appropriate hard hats and vests online and is looking into ways to get them donated (the cost would be approximately $3000).  Debi and her committee will continue to go through the medical supplies and dispose of the unnecessary items.  Nicholas Gardiner volunteered to help dispose of the needles safely.  Action Item:  Debi will identify what items to throw out and what items to buy.  Determine how to budget for these items or get them donated for free.  Move the items from where they are now and store them in the big container.

  1.  Education Committee:  Debi Loftus reported that the CERT training can be given by Rick Mull. Nicholas Gardiner said he is also qualified to give the training.  Pat Huckaby can train leaders in the use of the radios.  The CPR and/or First Aid training will cost approximately $50 per person.  We need to do fundraising or get a grant to pay for it.  Action Item:  Have a meeting to brainstorm ideas for a new brochure; have at least a rough draft ready before the March 1 meeting.  Make arrangements to start the CERT training.

D.)  Publicity Committee:  No report because Dani Montoya was absent.
Action Items:  reinstall the bulletin board in front of the Post Office to post CDP info on.  Call the Mountain News and get them to change our meeting date to the first Thursday of the month.  Clarify the hands on the logo.

E.)  Fund Raising:  Walt Farmer attended a Grant Writing Workshop on Jan. 13.  He learned that the Forest Service and the BLM will give grants, but they require fuel reduction projects as part of the agreement.  Walt will look into other sources of funds.  Action Item:  We give our list of items with all the other necessary information to Bonnie.

F.)  Emergency Operations Plan:  Walter Farmer is currently working on the manual and will soon have it available.
Action Item:  have a rough draft of the manual available at the next meeting.

6.  MOUNTAIN RIM FIRE SAFE COUNCIL REPORT:
      Nothing new to report.

7. OTHER BUSINESS:
A.)  The website is up and can be accessed from the GVL website (www.green-valley-lake.com). The new letterhead was passed around.  Action Items:  Add Stephanie Adams’ name as Treasurer.  Ask Dani  to clarify a little more the details of the logo (the hands).

B.)  The cabin rental agency people still have not attended a CDP meeting, so no progress has been made in getting them to share their ideas on how to inform renters of what to do in a disaster.
Action Item:  Contact the two main rental agencies, Cozy Cabins and Mountaintop Cabins, and invite them to come to the next CDP meeting.

C.)  A telephone tree was discussed and it was decided to at least call the zone leaders before each meeting.

D.)  Terry Droll has the correct hose that is needed to hook up the stove in the church to the propane tank.  He will check with Charlie Horn to determine the best way to hook it up.  Terry will also continue to try to contact the campground official about whether or not they have an emergency plan.

The next meeting was set for Mar. 1, 2007, 7:00 PM at the GVL Fire Station.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:04 PM.
