Where is your forest webcam located? Could you give the street that your street cam points at also? Wondering does Green Valley Lake Road (main road) stay pretty clear/drivable when you have snow (plowed daily)?

Thanks. We are looking forward to our first time up there soon.

  2. March 7, 2023 thank you for these Webcam it gives us all an idea how our own cabins might be after this huge snow fall. I’m proud how the community has joined together to help one another. The lake will be COLD this summer for good fishing, YES!

  3. Nell Forrest says:

We’ve had a cabin on Falling Leaf as part-timers for 12 yrs. Bought 2010, a few yrs after the fire. Just reading some GVL history, wondering if the old Toll House mentioned was near present campground & old Tillits homestead? Was there also a ski lift there? Is that where “Suicide Hill” ski run was?

We know there was another ski lift behind our cabin on Falling Leaf, which was destroyed in the 2007 fire, and we see remnants of old lift lines up in the “Snow Bowl” there. Are there photo’s anywhere of these two ski areas in operating days?

When my husband and I were dating we went skiing in GVL. We spent New Years there in his aunts cabin and went dancing at the restaurant in town. So fun! In 2010 we bought our cabin and come up every weekend. We feel very blessed to have this beautiful getaway

    • Cheryl Adams says:

Our family has been coming to GVL since the late 50’s when my mom & dad were dating. It was a rental on Ash Dr. where my grandfather would make small improvements in lieu of rent every summer. I’ve been going there since I was a baby. When the owner put it up for sale in 1976, my parents bought it. The cabin was NOT winterized & we use to freeze our butts off with only louvre windows covered by plastic haha. Me & my 3 brothers fished, hiked, skiied, & sledded. We all learned to ski in GVL, & now 11 grandchildren & 4 great grandchildren later, our whole family still enjoys our cabin year around all thanks to our parents. They’ve been married almost 59 years & still make it up in the summer time! They don’t do “cold” any more!

      • Richard Gillis says:

Our cabin was built in 1933, my dad and uncle bought it in 1946 after leaving the service. Many wonderful memories over the years, we’ve been rehabbing it to continue the fun. Hoping it has survived the latest snowmageddon.

      • Kevin Hilborn says:

Would this be Cheryl Brown (maiden name). If so, this is Kevin H. I lived across the street from “The Brown’s Out” cabin on Ash dr. I just came across your post and thought I would say Hi. If you want to, you can contact me at KevinHilborn245@yahoo.com. It would be great to catch up.

    • Mark Sutherland says:

This would be very coincidental but the timing is about right…

Are you married to “Jim Burton” an OLD classmate of mine from Altatdena!!!

      Stranger things have happened…

We owned a cabin on Tulip until this year…

      Good memories…

      If not enjoy

    • Dave says:

The ski hill was a lease from the government and probably given up after the fire. Hadn’t been able to make enough money and Calvary Chapel ran it for a while with volunteers. The toll house property has a rock home I recall. On the left side of the road heading to the campground.

    • Susan Lopez says:

Nell Forrest you should visit the Lilleberg Museum and get a tour from Richard Stewart or Denise. Will be opening by Memorial Day. 33659 GVL Road. Lots of History.

      • Stephen Rettig says:

I used to work for Einar back in “84” before his passing. I cut wood, split wood, and use to help him find pieces in the woodshed. He would show me Walt Disney original drawings, and all his wonderful unfinished pieces. From stone orbs to mallards, even a violin ( or was it a fiddle ). He had so much energy of mind.

  4. Irene nunez lopez says:

GVL,was a hidden gem. it seemed like every year more people would show up. We started going there since 2002. we would rent a cabin from the Woods family. We loved it so much, then they remolded and only the family was able to stay. We would rent other cabins, as the years went by it seem less and less cabins were available. Now, we go to lake arrow head..I would like to know if any cabins available to rent ? please let me know.

    • Fred says:

Lots of cabins for rent on airbnb.com

    • Christine Myles Ige says:

We have been enjoying peaceful GVL yearly for our snow fix for 35 years. McPhail and Cozy Cabins kept us happily housed but as we got older, we needed larger cabins for grandkids, and just too old for chains and icy hills. So, reluctantly we started booking flatter communities. My husband started booking VRBOs in all mountain communities and you don’t have to bring your own sheets & towels.

      Bless you GVL!

    • Susan Wallace Hermann says:

Go to Cozy Cabin Rentals, GVL.

  5. JOSEPH Lopez says:

I like to see green valley lake as my second home my family and I love it up there. We take weekend drives up just for the day we love the snow and the beautiful hikes in the spring it’s a real hidden gem.

  6. Bill Walters says:

We owned the GREEN VALLEY LAKE STORE or MARKET from January 1975 through Fall of 1979. Our son Chris Walters lived up there, year round, his house/cabin was at the top of Holcomb Creek Road. The big Blue one with a white Swiss Cross on the chimney. He sold it& moved down to Running Springs. He & wife Gina owned The Belgian Waffle restaurant inLake Arrowhed for many years. They now live in Portland, Oregon. He was a member of the SNOW VALLEY Ski Patrol for many years. Also a Fireman in Chino Hills.

    • David Benjamin says:

I lived in GVL from 1975 until 1983 Graduating RHS in 82. My parents started Green Valley Lake cabin rentals. First renting to Robert E Wood students (She was Roberts personal Assistant) in the late 70’s. Always felt blessed to be raised in this community.

  7. Jack Branch says:

Going here tomorrow, I can’t wait! Looks so cool. Little disappointed that the snow melted though haha.

  8. Ron Garasich says:

Sandy, Anywhere we can post photos of GVL memories, other than social media? Like a GVL scrapbook.

  9. Noelle says:

    Is there any snow?

  10. Karl Johnson says:

I haven’t been to my cabin in a couple months. Missing GVL.

  11. DAVID PAUL NOBILE says:

On March 13, Alice Weisman wrote “I miss gvl also, my dad ran boat dock in 60s and early 70s. My first job was there. So many memories.”

Alice’s dad was Don Mann, as dedicated and hard working a steward of the boat dock, beach, and lake as there has ever been.

He was a kind, but always authoritative presence at the lake, whose booming voice would carry over the lake to remiss paddle boarders without need of a megaphone!

My family and the Manns were good mountain friends and built many fond memories in the mountains at GVL.

Although down the hill we lived in the city, GVL gave us as free-spirited and carefree an upbringing as you would find in any rural farmland….except maybe without the tractors.

  12. Sandi Huckaby says:

“Fence Cam” is back !!! We depend on homeowners to provide the webcams….

  13. John D. says:

Will the GVL Store install a camera? The Store used to have a camera in the past showing snow conditions on the road. Please ask Alex to install a camera, so we can see snow conditions in front of the store. Good advertisement for store! Alex and Cheryl have done a nice job remodeling inside of the store! They installed a Coffee and Hot Dog counter!

Is this the same Don Healy friends with Paul Thompson? I shared that cabin with Paul after Leo moved in with Chris Spurgin. Still talk to Studly all the time.

        • Don Healy says:

Hi Ron. Sorry for the late response. I don’t often read this web page. I follow the 2 GVL sites on FB. Yes, I am the same Don Healy. Small world! I still stay in touch with Paul. I still have the same cabin. Good to connect again!

  14. Barbara Williams says:

Will the lakeside webcam be up and running any time soon???? Thank you!!!

  15. Ron Garasich says:

Lived in GVL in the late 70’s. Hang out at the Lake Inn. My girlfriend Carol Paisley would take me up there with her girls. Now my son lives in Running Springs, an outdoor photographer so I got to go back in 2017. Charlie Love’s ducks. Pranking with the giant chicken between us and Running Springs What a great place to live. Very fond memories.

    • Mary Miranda says:

      Any rain today!

    • Barbara Williams says:

Wasn’t that giant chicken on the raft the best??? So many GREAT memories from 1962-1970 for me!! Summer events/dances/ movies in the Clubhouse on the big huge tarp!!!! ❤

      • Ron Garasich says:

late 70s we put the chicken on some boats tied together and anchored it in the middle. I had a bunch of blow up swans tied together and set them afloat. Every one thought Charlie brought them back up, Took the hinges of the double doors of a tavern in R.S. (forgot name), no one could figure how we got it in. Since I lived there, when the skiers left they would dump their trash where ever so we waited for them just out of town and pelted them with snowballs. still have pictures.

      • Ron Garasich says:

go to google maps and check out photos under my name.
